Yes yes, I know that I oversimplified the steps above but keep on reading and I promise you that I will walk you through all steps in details.
Deciding on your blog niche and blog name.
This is the first but very important step in starting a blog. Deciding a blog niche is very important to the point that it may determine the success of your blog.
However, keep in mind that some people write a blog as a hobby without the intention of monetizing it while some write a blog with the sole purpose of monetizing.
If you do want to monetize your blog, I would strongly advise you to really think long and hard on your blog niche.
Tips on Choosing Your Blog Niche
- Think about niche that is related to your interest or hobby. It will be easier for you to write articles related to your interest.
- Do not choose niche that is too specific or too broad. Niche that is too specific will only target a small number of audience. A too broad niche will cause difficulty in web ranking.
- I would suggest that you do your research on the top niche for blogging.
- Some of the top niche are, “finance“, “making money“, “food and recipes“, “self development“, “investment“, “health” and many more.
- Sure, you can choose a niche that you know nothing about because you can always learn about it. Get out of your comfort zone.
One last important tip is that, DO NOT RUSH IN CHOOSING YOUR NICHE. Take your time.
Tips on Choosing Your Blog Name
Choosing a blog name is easy, either choose a general name or a name that is personal. If you love privacy and would like to avoid people from knowing you then go for a general name.
Otherwise, choose a personal name, it does not have to be your actual name, choose something in between. However, a personal blog name attracts more readers because of authenticity.
How to start a blog for beginners: Choosing Web Hosting and Domain For Your Blog.
After you have decided on your blog niche and blog name. It is time to choose your web hosting for the blog.
If you have never heard of web hosting before, allow me to explain.
What is web hosting?
Web Hosting is a service that allows hosting/post web-server applications( website or web page ) on a computer system through which web-browser client can have easy access to electronic content on the Internet. (geeksforgeeks.org)
In simpler terms, a web hosting is where you rent a space from a company and then you use that space to store your blog/website which is then available for the whole word to view or read.
Without a web hosting, you would not be able to easily publish your blog to the whole world.
So what about domain?
What is domain then?
Ok, so now that you have a space rented from a web hosting company, user can then view your website by going to its IP address like so 18.104.22.168. Remember that you are not the only renting a space, there are millions others doing so. So it is only logical that each space is identified through IP address as a unique identification.
But, imagine sharing your IP address to your reader like 22.214.171.124, your audience will never remember it, plus it looks fake and not trustworthy.
This is why we have a thing called domain. “A domain is a name that you can buy that can then act as an address to your website”.
For example, when your viewer wants to go to your blog, instead of writing 126.96.36.199 in the browser URL bar, the user can instead writes
rasyue.com and will then be going to your blog.
Note that, you usually buy a domain that is exactly the same as your blog name.
I would recommend to browse through NameCheap (affiliate link) as they provide the cheapest price for domains.
Choosing a web hosting company.
Here are the top 3 web hosting companies for you to choose from.
- Hostinger – Check out their plans and pricing here. (Affiliate Link)
- BlueHost – Check out their plans and pricing here. (Affiliate Link)
- Hostgator – Check out their plans and pricing here. (Affiliate Link)
These are the web hosting that I have used before and personally I do not have preference on one particular web hosting provider. Of course you can choose other provider if you want.
No matter which provider that you choose, if you are ever stuck to choose which kind of plan, go for either WordPress hosting or shared hosting plan.
Also, just to answer your question if you are wondering, the list is not in any way the order from best to worst. Each provider has their pros and cons. Personally, I love Hostinger.
How to start a blog for beginners: Installing WordPress.
If you opt out for a WordPress hosting plan, your provider of choice will usually setup your WordPress for you. They will then provide you with the necessary credentials to login.
But, if you choose a shared hosting plan, you will have to install and setup WordPress by yourself. You can ask for help from the support to install it though.
Log into your WordPress admin dashboard and start writing your articles.
I would suggest that you read more on WordPress to help you with the onboarding.

How to Start A Blog For Beginners: Monetizing Your Blog.
At this point, I am gonna be honest with you.
There are a lot of ways to monetize your blog but none is easy.
Maybe you have read tons of articles written by gurus on how easy it is to monetize your blog, but read this and understand this now, IT IS NOT EASY.
It takes tons of efforts and times to get your blog consistent traffic.
Keep in mind that while some ways work for others, it might not work for you. You will have to go thru try and error phase to find out which works for you.
Serving Ads on Your Blog.
This is the most common to monetize your blog, by serving ads on your blog.
There are a lot of ads provider to choose from:
Just to name a few..
However, keep in mind that you will need to have a constant traffic of audience to your blog to be able to make good amount of money from ads. Do not expect to see result from ads in the first 2-3 months of serving ads. Be patient.
Affiliate marketing is another way you can monetize your blog. Basically what affiliate marketing means is that you promote or market products or services on your blog. When someone purchase the product or service, you will a fraction of that purchase value or a fixed percentage.
For example, let’s say you want to promote Hostinger web hosting, you first must just Hostinger affiliate program, get approved and then you will be presented with the affiliate URL. Paste the URL on your blog, when user clicks on the URL and later make a purchase, Hostinger will pay you some amount.
Almost all web hosting providers have affiliate program but don’t stop there.
Here are some companies that offer affiliate program:
Really, just Google “Affiliate Program” and then choose the ones that you like.
Accept Sponsored Blog Post or Write a Review
If your blog is getting a lot of traffic and it caught attention from big brands, chances are that they might approach you to write a review on their products or services.
Selling Ad Space
This will only work if you have lots of traffic to your blog. Basically, you can sell a space on your website to those who are interested to show their ads on your blog. Obviously, your niche will need to relate to that company.
I think this is pretty self-explanatory. You write a book about a topic or something and then you publish it digitally. Market it and then people buy it. Profit!
You can use your blog as a platform to market your eBook.
A piece of advice from me, when you are first staring your blog, do not think too much about the monetizing part. Focus more on writing high-quality article on your blog, focus on getting more people to come to your blog, building traffic and traction.
The rest will come naturally.
